Process Piping Specialization

Oil and natural gas furnish about three-quarters of the world's energy needs. In addition, they provide the raw materials for plastics, chemicals, medicines, fertilizers, and synthetic fibres. Because oil and gas are difficult to locate, exploration and drilling are key activities in the oil and gas extraction industry.
Engineering CAD Technicians with the Process Piping Specialization work alongside with petroleum engineers to search the world for reservoirs containing oil or natural gas. They also work with geologists and other specialists to understand the geologic setting and properties of the rock containing the reservoir, determine the drilling methods to be used, and monitor drilling, production and environmental operations. They design and draft equipment and processes to achieve the maximum recovery of oil and gas, often using computer models to simulate reservoir performance using different recovery techniques.
Graduates of this program will be found working in process design and manufacturing facilities, engineering firms and other related industries. Their position is one of a skilled assistant to engineers or technologists, who possess a solid knowledge of the petrochemical and / or petroleum engineering disciplines.
