Building information modeling (BIM) is taking off. More and more, the value it provides engineers, designers, construction firms, and other professionals is getting recognized, spurring greater adoption and more reliance on what it offers.

With so much set to happen in this space in the near future, now truly is the time to get trained and ready to meet the growing demand for professionals able to implement BIM.

Curious about what opportunities await? Here’s a look at some of the biggest developments to note.

Learn BIM and You Open Doors in Countries Around the World

While BIM is being implemented all over the world, there are some places that have thrown themselves into adopting the process to impressive degrees. In the United Kingdom, for instance, all relevant government projects can only be completed using BIM. In France, a major government construction project accounting for millions of dollars also forged ahead, with BIM the process of choice for helping to bring it to fruition. In these and other countries and regions, the primary motivation behind this wholehearted adoption relates to the desire of governments to strike a better balance between maintaining a low budget and delivering the necessary infrastructure improvements demanded by their citizens.

It’s possible to accomplish this through BIM thanks to the immense level of detail that can be included in models. Everything from the materials that are to be used, to the order in which a structure should be built, to the timeframe over which a project should be completed, can all be included in the digital model of a building—along with the 3D representation of the structure, of course. Through this all-encompassing detail, it’s possible to achieve remarkable efficiency and minimal waste, allowing projects to come in at far lower budgets than would be possible otherwise. To learn BIM is to make yourself an indispensable asset to those firms interested in—or required to—leverage the process for their work going ahead. You could well find yourself with some international prospects for employment after graduation.

In Canada, CanBIM Is Leading the Charge in Making BIM a Standard

You don’t need to look abroad to witness the explosive growth of BIM. Canada’s own BIM community is growing quite quickly, thanks in large part to support by influential organizations that have dedicated themselves to its promotion.

In Canada, one of the most significant contributors has been the Canada BIM Council, also known as CanBIM. The organization comprises members from the education, fabrication, construction, and several more industries, and is dedicated to building “a positive business environment for the effective deployment of BIM, for all engaged in utilizing BIM in Canada.” It does this through initiatives aimed at advocacy, education, and community engagement, which CanBIM maintains a strong leadership position in. Thanks to CanBIM’s efforts, building information modeling is quickly becoming the option of choice for building in Canada.

As part of its efforts to promote and refine the practice of BIM in Canada, CanBIM offers a certification program for BIM professionals. Graduates of Digital School’s BIM courses are eligible to apply for CanBIM Certification, which is a great, nationally recognized qualification proving the wealth of knowledge students have gained throughout their training. It’s an ideal starting point for individuals wanting an additional way to showcase the conceptual knowledge and practical ability they have acquired and a great introduction to Canada’s BIM community.
