Architecture companies are forever pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible. They create beautiful new buildings, find innovative solutions to practical problems, and create inviting spaces that help shape the communities of tomorrow.

Some of these firms are small, while others hire hundreds of architects, architectural CAD technicians, and other professionals in offices all over the world. But, no matter what their size or which projects they work on, each firm works very hard on new developments in architecture.

If you are considering pursuing architectural technician training, read on to find out which companies are considered the most innovative, and how they’re shaping the future of architecture.

Architectural CAD Technicians at NBBJ Work with Data-Driven Solutions

Students pursuing computer-aided drafting training might already be familiar with using data to draft new building designs as they complete courses in technical mathematics, project data, and building science.

As one top architecture company has discovered, though, data from other fields like psychology and anthropology can also be used to create innovative new designs. NBBJ uses data from neuroscience and other fields to help design buildings that encourage collaboration. For example, when creating Samsung’s San Jose office in California, NBBJ designed a circular building. The donut shape of the building and large windows meant that employees could see co-workers on other floors—encouraging them to meet and collaborate on projects.

Architecture Teams Help Design Buildings With Innovative New Materials at C. F. Møller

Cost, sustainability, and beautiful design are all important factors that architecture firms need to keep in mind when designing new buildings. To help lower costs and create a more sustainable future, the architecture firm C. F. Møller has been looking into using wood to build skyscrapers.

Every architectural technician knows that wood was not always seen as an ideal material for building skyscrapers. In fact, it was viewed as vulnerable to fire damage; therefore, buildings made of wood often had a five storey height limit. These days, thanks to new technology, cross-laminated timber panels offer many benefits over conventional wood, such as:

  • strength properties that are uniform
  • better fire safety
  • does not expand and shrink with changes in air humidity

As a result, innovative architectural firms like C. F. Møller are incorporating wood into their designs. Currently, the company is working on the world’s tallest wooden skyscraper, which is scheduled for completion in 2023.

NL Architects Use Rooftop Spaces Creatively

In the cities of tomorrow, spaces will need to be used creatively to help accommodate our growing population. The architects and architectural CAD technicians at NL Architects are currently drawing up bold new designs to address this issue.

For example, one of the company’s designs includes a rooftop pool for single-family homes in Florida. While that design hasn’t been turned into a reality yet, NL Architects has completed another ambitious project that creatively uses rooftop space. In its design for apartments, NL created a wavy rooftop covered by red and green moss. Terraces were cut into the wavy rooftop so that each apartment could have their own individual terrace.
